Deadly fire in Paris kills elderly woman, injures others

Blaze in 'Bienvenue' square leaves three other people with injuries

A deadly fire has broken out in a square in Paris, killing an elderly woman and injuring three others.

The blaze took hold in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Place Bienvenue, in the 10th arrondissement of the French capital. A woman in her 60s died in the fire, while three other people were taken to hospital with injuries.

Firefighters were called to the scene at around 4am and brought the blaze under control about an hour later. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The deadly fire is the latest in a series of blazes that have hit Paris in recent months. In January, a fire at a homeless shelter in the 18th arrondissement killed 10 people.

The Paris fire brigade has urged people to be vigilant and to take precautions to prevent fires.
