French Parliamentary Election Results Show Gains for Far-Right
Voting Concludes in Run-Off Election
National Rally Makes Substantial Gains
In France, the second round of the parliamentary elections has drawn to a close, with results indicating significant advances for the far-right National Rally (RN). After dissolving the parliament and calling for elections, President Emmanuel Macron's gamble has resulted in a reconfiguration of the political landscape.
The voting process has nearly concluded, and the run-off election is expected to have a major impact on the composition of the 577-seat National Assembly. During the first round of the election, the RN gained momentum, winning 89 seats. This represents a substantial increase from the eight seats they held previously.
Macron's centrist party, Ensemble, has received support but faces challenges from a newly formed left-wing coalition and the RN. With three years remaining in his term, Macron's ability to implement his agenda may hinge on the outcome of the run-off election and the balance of power in the National Assembly.
